Rick Roberts, a counterfeit drug victim, will speak at the Interchange
Rick Roberts will be a panelist at the Partnership for Safe Medicines Interchange. He will share his experiences as a victim of counterfeit drugs. After battling AIDS for 12 years Rick Roberts was diagnosed with HIV wasting syndrome, a serious life-threatening complication of HIV treated with Serostim, a synthetic growth hormone. During his first year of treatment, however, he was given two counterfeit batches of the injectable medication that caused pain and did not contain the ingredients he had been prescribed. Drug counterfeiters could have killed Roberts, who is all too aware of the risks associated with phony medicines.
