Dr. Salvatore J. Giorgianni of Belmont University School of Pharmacy Will Speak at Interchange October 8th
Dr. Salvatore J. Giorgianni will speak at the Partnership for Safe Medicines Interchange October 8th, 2010 at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
Dr. Giorgianni, Assistant Professor and Director of Experiential Education and Development at Belmont University School of Pharmacy, is an expert in men's health and is a registered pharmacist. He is a recognized expert in drug regulatory and US pharmaceutical policy as well as in organizational reputation management and strategic alliance development. He has authored, co-authored or presented some 200 works in health care, industry regulation and business. He is the Vice-Chair and Chair Elect of the American Public Health Association Men's Health Caucus, as well an advisor and board member to several health advocacy associations including: The Men's Health Network; American Osteopathic Medical Foundation; Kappa Psi Scholarship Foundation; Nurse Practitioner Health Care Foundation and the National Association for Continence.
“American citizens have come to trust in the purity and integrity of medication products used within our borders,” said Dr. Giorgianni, “Unfortunately, that no longer is the case; the integrity of America's modern day medication supply chain has never been so porous as it is now. Illegal importation of medications through unvalidated sources are putting millions at risk. While much of this illegal activity is now confined to the internet there are concerns that counterfeit and sub-quality products may soon be sold "on the street". Americans who purchase from non-validated or US licensed sources put themselves at significant risk.”
Originally a community and hospital pharmacist, Dr. Girogianni joined Belmont in September 2007, after a 26 year career with Pfizer Inc, where he held positions in the medical, regulatory, training, public policy, business planning, sales and marketing groups. Most recently he served as Pfizer's Director, External Relations. He also directed several publications, including the Pfizer Careers In Health Care series and The Pfizer Journal: Perspectives in Health Care and Biomedical Research.
