Hugo Bonar of the Irish Medicine Board to speak at Interchange
Mr. Bonar is the Enforcement Manager of the Irish Medicines Board with responsibilities in the areas of both medicines and medical devices. He has degrees in Law and in Public Administration. He is a qualified Attorney-at-Law (New York). He is the former Chair of the Heads of Medicines Agencies Working Group of Enforcement Officers and a member of the Management Committee of the Permanent Forum on International Pharmaceutical Crime. He was a member of the expert group that drafted the Council of Europe ‘Medicrime’ Convention.
Mr. Bonar moderated the first ever workshop in IGF dedicated to medicines on the Internet – ‘Medicines on the Web’ at the UN Internet Governance Forum 2009 and said, in part, "We must empower the consumer with accurate and good quality information that may be valid in different legal frameworks. Medical products are different from other commodities offered via the Internet because without the adequate prescription or due to a bad quality, you may die."
