Richard Halverson to Speak at Interchange October 8th
Richard Halverson of the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center will speak at the Interchange, October 8th, at the National Press Club, in Washington, D.C.
Richard Halverson is currently the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security (HSI) Unit Chief for Outreach and Training assigned to the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center (IPR Center) in Arlington, VA. In this capacity, Mr. Halverson is responsible for the management and coordination of the IPR Center’s domestic and international outreach and training efforts to the public and private sectors.
Mr. Halverson began his career with US Customs as a co-operative student trainee and in 1991, after graduating from Michigan State University, was hired as a Customs Special Agent. His first duty station was Corpus Christi, Texas where he worked on drug smuggling and money laundering investigations. He received the Commissioner’s Award for his role as co-case agent in a money smuggling sting operation in South Texas. In 1997, Mr. Halverson transferred to Houston, Texas where he worked on customs fraud investigations, specializing in Intellectual Property Rights cases.
In 2002, Mr. Halverson was assigned to Customs Office of International Affairs, Foreign Operations, later merged into HSI, where he served as an acting supervisor and program manager coordinating the OIA mission with the various domestic HSI and CBP programs. Mr. Halverson also served as a desk officer on the Asia and Europe desks and participated in delivering international training on Intellectual Property Rights investigations.
From 2004-2008, Mr. Halverson served as the HSI Deputy Attaché assigned to the American Embassy in London, UK. In this capacity, Mr. Halverson was responsible for the supervision of the HSI criminal and civil investigations, overseeing the removal of aliens to and through the UK, and coordinating HSI support to CBP on their security-based programs in country.
Upon departing London, Mr. Halverson assumed the position of Unit Chief for the HSI Visa Security Program, overseeing the counter-terrorism efforts of HSI in reducing the vulnerabilities within the visa process.
